Frequently Asked Questions

If you have questions about what a health advisor does or how we work, you’re in the right place. Below, the Better Health Advisors team answers the most common questions we hear. Click on a question to reveal the answer.

What is a health advisor?

Health advisors are expert consultants on everything relating to health and wellness. Health advisors help individuals, families, companies, and other groups navigate the healthcare system. This includes providing personal support, outlining treatment options, finding top doctors, arranging for second opinions, evaluating health insurance plans, and offering guidance during challenging healthcare decisions.

Who does Better Health Advisors work with?

Better Health Advisors works with individuals, families, companies, and family offices.

What health conditions does Better Health Advisors have experience with?

We work with people of all ages who have a wide range of health conditions, many of which are quite complex. Our experience includes, but is not limited to: Alzheimer’s, cancer, mental health issues, substance abuse, neurological disorders, and Parkinsons. BHA manages these conditions with Covid-19 safety precautions in mind.

How are health advisors different from concierge doctors?

A concierge doctor is typically a primary care doctor who provides patients with extra time and personalized care in their offices. Better Health Advisors partners with concierge doctors, but our work extends beyond the office visit. We advise you at every step of the healthcare process and help you make informed decisions. We provide guidance on insurance, transitions from hospital to home, wellness, and even in-person ER and hospital support.

How does Better Health Advisors’ pricing work?

BHA offers custom pricing arrangements. People who work with us often sign an annual retainer, but the length of engagement varies based on individual needs. Please contact info@betterhealthadvisors.com for details.

Does BHA work with financial advisors to coordinate care for clients?

BHA considers the financial implications of medical care a key component of health planning. We seamlessly coordinate our healthcare approach and solutions with your other advisors, such as financial advisors, trust and estate attorneys, and accountants.

How does BHA determine the best doctors for me?

We get to know you, starting with our comprehensive intake discussion. We assess your healthcare and lifestyle preferences, and recommend top providers and facilities that we know will give you the best possible care. If you have, or develop, a health condition that requires specialized treatment, we confer with our internal and external advisors to identify highly-skilled doctors with that expertise. In addition to recommending specific doctors, we talk with these doctors prior to your visit to relay key medical information, attend appointments (often virtually), and follow up with you on next steps.

Where is Better Health Advisors located?

Better Health Advisors is a boutique health advisory firm based in New York City. While many of the people we work with live in the northeastern United States, we have relationships with doctors and hospitals nationwide. We also work with people during their domestic and international travel, as well as people who have a support system, such as their children, living abroad.

How is BHA different from other health advisory firms?

We take a team-based approach, and our team members’ expertise extends across various disciplines. We all have extensive experience working in the healthcare system, and we want you to benefit from the knowledge and relationships we’ve built over the years. The BHA team sees complex healthcare situations from an insider’s perspective, so we can help you avoid the pitfalls.

We’ll tell you what questions to ask at your next doctor’s appointment, how to choose the most appropriate health insurance plan, and how to get the most out of a hospital visit. We’ll let you know what to bring to the ER — and when to go. We’re here to help you get you the best possible care.

Does Better Health Advisors earn a commission or other financial benefit from the doctors and facilities it recommends?
